Moston Lane Youth Project carried out their annual family fun day for the local community on Saturday 29th August 2015. The young people applied to Manchester City Council’s Neighbourhood Investment Fund to cover the costs and were successful in obtaining £440 to allow the event to happen. Over 100 people attended the event from the local area and positive feedback was given by the community.
Moston Lane Youth Project has been supporting young people aged 11 years plus in North Manchester since 2008 through delivering free youth provision. Our current project offers an open access session on Friday nights 5-7pm. We offer a safe environment for young people to make friends and participate in activities with the support of positive adults. We also run a Saturday session with a running topic based theme from 4-7:30pm. An example of the topics is our foods from around the world project which celebrated different cultures each week using cooking and arts activities.
The young people who attend Moston Lane Youth Project have worked alongside staff to plan and deliver the family fun day and were actively involved in the marketing for the event by running a stall at North Manchester Games and distributing leaflets in the area. At the event the young people set up a number of stalls which they ran themselves such as the Raffle, guess the teddy’s name and number of sweets in the jar, Hook a duck and the bouncy castle. They hired a professional face painter who also made balloon art with creative designs.
A good time was had by all.
